Restoration of roofs and exterior walls at Nuestra Señora de La Vid Monastery (La Vid y Barrios, Burgos)

La Vid y Barrios, Burgos

Nuestra Señora de la Vid Monastery is 12th-century Premostratensian foundation. However, the building as we know it today is the result of the efforts of the abbot Íñigo López de Mendoza in the 16th century and later extensions that lasted until the 18th century. For a period in the 19th century it was abandoned as a result of the confiscation of the monasteries. It is now an Augustine monastery, providing accommodation and use as a hostel.

The building's roof leaks in many places, causing damage to the wooden structure. Also, the lack of protection of overhangs and cornices and the lack of maintenance had led to the extensive presence of vegetation, lichens and surface deposits.

The actions carried out have mostly consisted of repairing all the roof structures and the roofs themselves, protecting cornices, windowsills and imposts, and restoring and cleaning the exterior walls.
