Butarque WWTP O&M – Madrid
Butarque, Madrid
Between April 2013 and January 2020 DRACE GEOCISA was responsible for the O&M of the Butarque WWTP (Madrid).
The water line consists of the following treatments:
Pre-treatment. Course pit and four screening channels prior to elevation pumping. Fine screening with six channels, 1.75 m wide, and 3 mm mesh. Grit and fat removers, each 40 m long and 5.70 m wide. Two grit classifiers, with a hydraulic capacity of 200 m³/h, and two fat concentrators with a capacity of 20 m³/h.
Primary treatment. Physical and chemical treatment with eight lines. Eight primary decanter-thickeners, with a thickening surface of 20 x 20 m.
Secondary treatment. Four ponds, 20.5 m x 165 m x 4 m deep. Aeration with 32 100-CV turbines. Secondary decanting with 11 circular diameters ø39 m with diameter bridge and 1 lamellar decanter 18.25m x 4.5 m.
Tertiary treatment. Three sand filters with ultraviolet disinfection and a capacity of 160 m³/h.
The sludge line consists of a primary-sludge screen and subsequent gravity thickening. Three anaerobic mesophilic digesters, 28 m in diameter and 16.4 m high. Heat and mix sludge stirring/recirculation system in digesters. Sludge dehydration directed by three centrifuges, each 40 m³/h, to achieve 25% dryness.
The gas line has 2 membrane gasometers with a total volume of 4,268 m³ and two pressure spheres (700 m³) for biogas storage. The cogeneration installation to produce electricity by using biogas consists of three generator motors with a total power rating of 2.9 MW.
